Marriages of convenience are so…inconvenient.
Rescued by Calvin McLoughlin from a would-be subway attacker, Holland Bakker pays the brilliant musician back by pulling some of her errand-girl strings and getting him an audition with a bigtime musical director. When the tryout goes better than even Holland could have imagined, Calvin is set for a great entry into Broadway—until he admits his student visa has expired and he’s in the country illegally.
Holland impulsively offers to wed the Irishman to keep him in New York, her growing infatuation a secret only to him. As their relationship evolves from awkward roommates to besotted lovers, Calvin becomes the darling of Broadway. In the middle of the theatrics and the acting-not-acting, what will it take for Holland and Calvin to realize that they both stopped pretending a long time ago?
What have I been missing out on? This is my first Christina Lauren book and I’m hooked! Roomies is so stinkin’ cute and an all-around good time!
Gotta love the fake marriage/relationship trope! There’s just something highly entertaining about two people attempting to navigate their lives and feelings when forced together under unconventional circumstances. Then to watch them develop a genuine love is the best!
Holland and Calvin’s journey in matrimony brought all the feels and laughter. They are adorable and absolutely swoony. I couldn’t get enough of Calvin and all his sexy guitar-playing Irishness! Not to mention he’s a sincerely good guy who treats Holland right. They’re both great characters with an undeniable connection. It’s impossible not to fall for them! It isn’t only about the romance, though. There’s some nice personal growth with Holland that’s done really well.
The secondary characters are just as enjoyable, especially Holland’s uncles and brother. Her relationship with them warmed my chilly heart. Plus the Broadway setting and the way music is incorporated is wonderful.
I’m so glad I read Roomies! It’s a total delight that has me craving more from these authors.
